Laboratory FAQs
Do I need to fast before my blood tests?
You need to fast if your doctor has ordered a fasting test. This means that you cannot eat anything and may only drink clear water for 8-10 hours prior to your test. You should continue to take your medications, unless otherwise instructed by your doctor. Some common fasting tests include: fasting glucose, fasting lipid panel, and testosterone. If you are uncertain about whether or not you should fast, please contact your healthcare provider by sending a secure message on
TOL
.
What is the COVID-19 Screening Hotline?
The COVID-19 Screening Hotline is 520-533-2997. The number will be answered daily between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. If you call outside those hours, please leave a message, and a preventative health nurse will return your call the next day.
How long should I fast?
If your doctor did not tell you how long to fast, you should not eat anything and only drink clear water for approximately 8-10 hours prior to the test.
I am unable to provide a urine specimen. What can I do?
If you are unable to provide a urine specimen, return to the registration desk and turn in your urine cup. The test will be re-ordered, and you may return to the Laboratory when you are able to provide the specimen.
I did not fast for a fasting test. Can I have my blood drawn anyway?
Because certain test results may be influenced by what you eat or drink, we are unable to draw your blood if your provider ordered fasting specimens.
Do I need an appointment for lab tests?
No, you do NOT need to make an appointment.
What do I need to bring for my blood draw?
Please bring your DoD picture ID. If you have an order from an OUTSIDE provider, it is best to have the paper-copy of doctor’s order for your lab tests.
Can I get a copy of my test results directly from the laboratory?
Yes, you may request a copy of your results at the RWBAHC Information Desk or the Lab’s Registration Desk or download your results from the
Tricare Online Patient Portal
. However, it is best that you request copies directly from your health care provider since Lab Staff is prohibited from interpreting results or offering medical advice. The Laboratory does NOT provide results over the phone.
